We are a friendly and enthusiastic Morley, Derbyshire, based model engineering society with an enthusiasm for steam railways. We have a 1600 foot long, dual five inch and three and half inch gauge, ground level track. The track has point work, gradients, a brick arch tunnel, two bridges and a form of automatic block section signalling controlled by colour light signals. Control of some routes can be undertaken from a signal box.
Our interests are not limited to railways and locomotives. Some of our members also have interests in clocks, petrol engines, boats, marine engines, stationary engines, traction engines and steam lorries. Many of our members are skilled model engineers who can provide advice, while other members are content to be enthusiastic amateurs or simply enjoy being a member of our society.
Besides the general running undertaken at the track, there is a programme of events throughout the year. Included in the summer programme are visits by and sometimes to other societies. Visits to other organisations for talks or tours may be organised by individuals and attended by our members.
A society journal called the Blower is published four times per year and distributed to members. Copies are also forwarded to Model Engineer and Engineering In Miniature, who have published articles taken from the Blower.
At present the annual membership fee is £35 and provides a level of insurance cover for members. Our Society is insured through Walker Midgley who endorses the methods used to test boilers of our members. All boiler tests and examinations are conducted in accordance with The Examination & Testing of Miniature Steam Boilers (Revised Edition 2008) as published by the Model Engineering Liaison Group
